So I have a question.
I am right now part of a play called Babel and there is a part[ well actually, more than one] where we have to wear these animal masks that partially cover our mouths.
So, what my director said is that the public can't hear what I say whenever I wear the mask. Well they can, but it's all muffled.
So.
Any ideas on how I can make myself be heard better?
[and no. there cannot be any changes done to the mask]

I´m afraid the budget wont allow it, but what about a small microfone? thats the only thing I can think of. Or what do you think about cut down on speaking anyway and reduce your playin on body language? just a suggestion, I dont know the play, so I can hardly say something really smart or useful... (; why does your director doesnt know such things or hasnt he or she thought about this problem before working on this play? i just wonder... (:

Thanks for the answer. I'll tell her about the microphone, i really like that idea.
And our entire play is based on body language, so i guess I could do more of that. I'm not sure why she didn't know, but she's never used masks before so I'm guessing that must be the reason. It was something new for all of us, the tech crew, aactors and producer/director. But wow, thank you for the answer.

just try to breath correctly using your diaphragm, posed your voice correctly (ask for help from your director) and laying your voice as clear as you can... good luck!
